Side Effects

Severe allergic reactions. Signs include : • Raised and itchy rash (hives) , swelling sometimes of the face or mouth , difficulty in breathing , collapse or loss of consciousness • Redness or skin irritation around the umbilical cord.

Drug Interactions

Ask your physician or pharmacist for any drug interactions .

Indication

It is a gel to prevent umbilical cord infections and should only be used in newborn babies.

When not to Use

Don’t use - If you are allergic to chlorhexidine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine .

Umbilica Gel Precautions

Precaution

This medicine should only be applied to the umbilical cord stump and the skin around the base of the umbilical cord.

Umbilica Gel Warnings

Warning 1

Do not swallow this medicine. Keep out of eyes and ears. If it goes into the eyes, wash out with clean water.

Warning 2

Seek medical advice immediately if your baby has redness or skin irritation around the umbilical cord when using this medicine.

Warning 3

Use carefully in babies born early (less than 32 weeks of pregnancy or weighing less than 1500 grams) because it is more likely to cause chemical skin burns or methaemoglobinaemia in babies born early .
