How it works
As a detergent, chlorobutanol disrupts the lipid structure of the cell membrane and increases the cell permeability, leading to cell lysis . It induces conjunctival and corneal cell toxicity via causing cell retraction and cessation of normal cytokines, cell movement, and mitotic activity . Emollients are substances that soften and moisturize the skin and decrease itching and flaking.

Side Effects
Momentary blurring of vision (this can typically last from 1 to 15 minutes) , Sense of irritation in the eye(s) , Soreness/reddening of the eye(s) , Local allergic reaction , Swelling and itching of the eye(s) and/or eyelid , Inflammation of the eye surface , Eye pain , Discharge from eye , Feeling that something is in your eye , Excess of tears.
Drug Interactions
If you are currently using (or are planning to use) any other medication to treat an eye condition then you should first apply your other eye medication and then allow a gap of at least 5 minutes before using this medicine .

Precaution
If you wear contact lenses these should be removed before using LACRI-LUBE. The lenses can be put back again 30 minutes after you have applied your ointment.
Lacri-Lube Eye Warnings
Warning 1
It may cause short-lasting (from 1 to 15 minutes) blurring of vision. If affected do not use electric tools/machinery or drive until vision has returned to normal.
Warning 2
Your pharmacist or doctor will tell you how long your treatment with this medicine will last. Do not stop treatment early unless told to do so.
Warning 3
If you have the impression that the effect of LACRI-LUBE is too strong or too weak, then do not change the dose yourself but ask your pharmacist or doctor.
